A new and exciting event is coming to Leeds this summer that promises to delight board game enthusiasts of all ages. The Leeds Board Game Convention is set to take place on July 25th and 26th this year at The Holiday Inn @ Garforth. Organised by Andrew Hazelgrave, a teacher and lifelong board game fan, this convention aims to fill a gap in the community for a large-scale tabletop gaming event.

About The Event

The Leeds Board Game Convention is designed to be a welcoming space for both experienced gamers and newcomers. It has already generated a lot of buzz, attracting over 300 attendees with tickets for Saturday completely sold out. However, there are still limited tickets available for Sunday, and those interested can save 15% by using the discount code YORKSHIRE when purchasing at leedsbgc.co.uk.

What To Expect

The convention will feature a variety of exciting activities, including:

  • A Massive Board Game Library: Attendees can try out over 600 different board games, providing a fantastic opportunity to discover new favourites.

  • Blood on the Clocktower: This is a popular social deduction game, often compared to BBC’s The Traitors. Attendees can participate in endless sessions of this thrilling game.

  • Charity Raffle: A huge raffle will be held with prizes valued over £1500 from publishers around the world, supporting The Rob Burrow Motor Neurone Centre.

  • Demo Games: Major board game publishers, such as Hachette Boardgames and Chance & Counters, will be on hand to provide demo games and support.

  • Welcoming Atmosphere: The convention aims to create an inviting environment for everyone, whether they are seasoned players or just starting out.

The Vision Behind The Convention

Andrew Hazelgrave, the organiser, expressed his excitement about launching this event. He recognised a need for a community-focused tabletop event in Leeds and decided to take matters into his own hands. "As a teacher and lifelong board game enthusiast, I felt there was a real gap for a large-scale event," he said. The hope is that the Leeds Board Game Convention will become an annual highlight for the city, bringing together people who share a passion for board games.

Community Engagement

The convention is not only about fun and games; it also aims to foster a sense of community among board game lovers. With the inclusion of a charity raffle, attendees will have the chance to contribute to a good cause while enjoying their favourite pastime. The proceeds will go to The Rob Burrow Motor Neurone Centre, which supports individuals and families affected by motor neurone disease.

How To Get Involved

For those interested in participating, tickets can be purchased at leedsbgc.co.uk. With Saturday tickets already sold out, it is advisable to secure Sunday tickets soon. Following the convention on social media is also a great way to stay updated on announcements and activities. The event can be found on platforms like Twitter and Instagram under the handle @LeedsBGC.
