Lovely, friendly cafe. Perfect spot for a great coffee. Hot chocolates are amazing and iced coffee’s in the summer the best I’ve found in york. I also love the events that are hosted here. We went to the bauble painting and loved it- had a 10/10 cheeseboard. I was pregnant at the time and the staff were really flexible in ensuring it was suitable for me. I’ve visited a lot since having my baby, and have always found it a really welcoming, friendly and relaxed spot. Staff are really friendly!

We have such a fantastic experience at North South in York everytime we go so much that I felt compelled to leave a five-star review. From the moment we walk in, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming—it’s clear the team really cares about their customers. Laura and Rich are the best hosts and make north south sooo special The reputation is well deserved. As locals we trust and return to often with our daughter who loves the team and mini coffees a great atmosphere, and the best place in York to chill and enjoy coffee or a glass of wine. And the coffee—absolutely amazing. Rich, smooth, and expertly prepared, it’s easily some of the best I’ve had in York. We’ve been coming to North South regularly for a long time, and I honestly feel I need to say something after seeing a recent review claiming they waited 90 minutes for a coffee - that just doesn’t reflect our experience at all. People who come here often know that simply isn’t how this place operates. For us, North South is more than just somewhere to grab a drink - it’s been part of a special chapter in our lives. We came here after our 3-month scan, and after chatting to the person who served us about it - they then surprised us by giving us our drinks on the house to celebrate, which meant so much at the time. From then on, we came back after every scan and even after registering our daughter’s birth. She’s now two and enjoys sitting in the window with an apple juice and cake! Every single visit, the staff have been warm, kind, and genuinely engaging. It’s those little moments of care and consistency that make this place stand out. Plus their coffee is one of the best in York!

Excellent snack/lunch food (try cranberry brie bacon) quality bread makes a difference. Coffee cannot be bettered. Consistent quality of the cortado regardless of which staff member makes it speaks to fine training and pride in the craft. Good range of beer without being silly about it. Cocktails well made. Laptop policy is fair and appropriately flexible. The staff, particularly the A team of Alex and Amelia are welcoming and provide educated entertaining chat - from tattoo art to stock market trends via medieval tyrants and a bit of local gossip. Great sun drenched outdoor seating. Dog friendly, frequented by locals, tourists, ladies who do lunch, students, entrepreneurial types and even teachers from the local schools taking a sneaky break. Music at a courteous volume and generally well chosen Highly recommended

We ordered a take away of the tuna melt and three cheese after checking how the meal would be packed. When we got to the park realised that they forgot to give the salad that comes with it and paid for. The tuna melt was lovely but the three cheese lacked substance or defining taste that there actually was three not two cheeses and soggy not crispy like the tuna. Not worth £11 per toastie if items are soggy and/or missing.
